About these posts
These posts are written for people who own or manage a building in Greater Melbourne and want to understand a roof problem before a contractor arrives. They cover the questions that come up most: why a roof leaks in some storms and not others, whether a tired roof can be repaired, which material suits which house, how long a re-roof takes, what Victorian rules say about permits, roof plumbing and asbestos, and how to compare quotes.
Each post opens with a short bottom-line answer, then explains the detail. None of them replace an inspection. Roofs that look similar from the street can be in very different condition once someone is on them, and the right answer for your home depends on what is found.
A few notes on how they are written
- No prices outside the price guide. Costs change, and a figure without context misleads. Every price band on this site is in one place, the 2026 Melbourne price guide, with the factors that move it.
- Rules are attributed. Where a post mentions a regulation, it names the body responsible, such as WorkSafe Victoria, EPA Victoria or your council, and suggests you confirm with them. Rules change and we would rather you check than rely on us.
- Referral, not roofer. Roof Repair Melbourne VIC arranges quotes from independent local contractors. The posts are general information to help you ask better questions.
If you would rather read by subject, go to the guides page. If you already know what you need, the services page lists the work we can arrange quotes for, and the FAQ answers the short questions.
